Here’s what is in store:

Help the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina kick off the Stop Summer Hunger Campaign (formerly Kids Summer Stock) to benefit the Kids Meals & More children’s programs.

Join them for The Streets at Southpoint Kickoff Event, starting on May 31 with an ABC11 Broadcast event, leading into a Kids Walk on June 1 and wrapping up with a Drive Through food drive! This is a great opportunity for you and your family to have fun and support a great cause.

Friday, May 31
ABC11 Broadcast & Cisco Can-Structure

Come on out from noon to 6:30 pm to the center court of the mall as talent from ABC11 broadcasts the weather segments LIVE!  Volunteers from Cisco will be building a model of the ABC11 logo out of cans for donation!

Saturday, June 1
Morning Kids Walk

The Stop Summer Hunger Kids Walk is a “family fun walk” inside the mall of The Streets at Southpoint. Walkers will follow the route around the lower level. For each lap completed, walkers will win a ticket for a spin of the prize wheel! There will be unique structures made out of cans and Food Bank tables along the way. Walkers can get a photo taken with Souper Can, the Food Bank mascot. Strollers are VERY welcome!

Pre-registration is recommended and the first 100 registrants will receive a FREE gift bag on event day.  You can make an online donation to the Food Bank with your walk registration and be entered in a drawing for a $100 VISA gift card!

On event day, check-in begins at 8:30 am at the Main Street entrance of the mall. Walk from 9am to 10:30 am and help stop summer hunger!

Saturday, June 1
Drive, Drop & Go! Food Drive

Don’t want to walk? NO PROBLEM! You can join in the Drive, Drop & Go Food Drive where volunteers will collect bags of food from folks in their cars as they drive by.  Simply pack a bag of non-perishable food (see the Food Bank’s Most Needed Items list for ideas) and look for thier volunteers at the Main Street Champp’s Crossover from 9 am to 2 pm.  Drop off your food and go!  EASY!

What else?

Can’t join us for the kickoff?  You can still make a donation to Stop Summer Hunger to support children and families in need.  Consider launching your own personal fundraising campaign and help even more kids this summer. Remember: Just $1 equals 5 meals!

And you can even help out without leaving your smartphone, tablet or computer! Just be sure to “LIKE” The Streets on Facebook. Now through June 2, The Streets at Southpoint will be donating a $1 on your behalf to the Food Bank when you become a new Facebook Fan!  The goal is to raise $5,000 which is 25,000 meals to feed kids all summer long!  If you already do “LIKE”, encourage your friends!

See you Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 9 am to 2 pm at The Streets at Southpoint!

BLACK FRIDAY IS ALMOST HERE!

21 Nov

You know that old saying- you eat the entree to get to dessert?  Well for me on Thanksgiving, I eat my dessert to get to Black Friday!

The busiest and wildest shopping day of the year is almost here and this shopping GURU is ready and very excited to get some killer deals!  Things will start early this year at The Streets at Southpoint with a ton of stores opening at 12am midnight on Friday! Check out this lineup:

…and there are many, many more.
For the complete list, check out The Streets at Southpoint’s Facebook page!
If you just can’t wait until midnight to cross off your wish list this year and grab some great deals,  Jos. A. Bank will be open at 10pm and Sears will welcome shoppers at 8pm on Thanksgiving day!

On Friday, the mall itself officially opens at 6am and will stay open until 10pm. I suggest getting to the mall early, even if it’s not midnight. If you’re there before the crowds, you’ll get the best deals and the best parking spot!

When it comes to putting together your Black Friday shopping strategy, here are a couple tips:

  • Do Your Homework: Know where you need to go!  Running from one end of the mall to the other wastes time and energy, so map out your approach.
  • Make a List:  Make a list of everyone on your gift list along with gift ideas. Then, cross off each person as you go. If you’re stumped on what to get someone, feel free to leave me your question in the comment section right here.
  • Treat Yourself:  With such amazing deals out there, don’t forget one person on your list — YOU!  If you see that standout sweater, bag or shoes, get it while it’s on a Black Friday special.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving and be sure to check in with the blog on MIDNIGHT for some updates on the incredible deals to be had at my favorite retailers!

Holiday Hosting Tips From Crate & Barrel!

20 Nov

I’m a huge fan of multi-tasking —  and I’m not talking about making dinner while texting or playing Angry Birds!

I’m talking about kitchen items that can pull double and even triple duty!  THAT is my idea of multi-tasking. And with Thanksgiving just two days away, I bet you wish there was a way to shave some time off in the kitchen.

I CAN HELP!

When I popped into Crate & Barrel (ZONE A) to look for some ideas for Thanksgiving decor and hostess gifts to show to ya’ll, I noticed this pumpkin right away.  At first glance, the Staub Pumpkin Covered Casserole may look like a fun, seasonal serving dish that can take you through fall. BUT IT’S MUCH MORE!  This cast iron pot can go from oven to table, saving you on washing yet another dish!  Plus, it’s even freezer and dishwasher friendly. The brass vine serves as the handle. So this one dish cooks, serves, stores and cleans! Cinderella, eat your heart out!

Staub Pumpkin Covered Casserole

Let’s say you’re dashing out to grab a last minute store bought pie (that would be me!). You can add a homemade touch with these Mini Pie Cutters. A store associate gave me a great tip to share here. Buy a pre-made pie crust.  Use the cutters to cut out a few pieces. Bake them for just a few minutes, and then use the shapes to decorate the top of your pie and make it look like it came out of your own kitchen!  I’ll definitely have to try this out!

If you’re looking for a way to add some seasonal spirit to your home or for a hostess gift, check out the Pumpkin Platter. If you’re bringing appetizers or cookies to someone’s home for Thanksgiving, it would make for a memorable presentation to arrange them on this platter and let your hosts know that it’s a gift!  This Earthenware platter can even go in the microwave and it’s also dishwasher safe.

I just can’t get enough of the colors in the Autumn Squash Dishtowels! You can create an instant seasonal touch by draping a pair of these over your oven handle. Or, you can use one to wrap up a small host gift, instead of traditional wrapping paper or a gift bag. They also do a good job serving double-duty as a potholder.

Here’s a another fun gift idea. Set up your hosts for an easy post Thanksgiving meal with the After the Feast Soup Mix.  All you need to do is add some leftover turkey, broth, water and presto — you have an easy lunch.

GURU Tip:  Some of the Thanksgiving items at Crate & Barrel are on sale. So, it’s the perfect time to stock up for the entire holiday season and beyond!

Let me know what you find!

Become a Pie Pro This Season!

17 Nov

Apple, Pumpkin, Pecan or Peach- Nothing and I mean NOTHING says “Thanksgiving Dinner” to me like a delicious holiday pie!

I enjoy the turkey, sides and appetizers as much as the next gal, but that’s all just a warm up to the big ending and that first slice of the perfect pie.

But how can we make sure our pies (especially mine!) live up to the hype?

Williams-Sonoma (Lower Level)  is hosting special FREE Thanksgiving technique classes this Sunday and Monday (11/18-19) appropriately titled to “Pie: The Perfect Ending.”  Sunday’s class is at 12:30pm and at 6pm on Monday. Each hour long class is the same, so go to either one depending on what fits your schedule.

The best part? THEY’LL BE MAKING PIES FOR YOU TO TRY!

Williams-Sonoma’s Cooking Classes are FREE! Just call ahead.

This class will offer step-by-step instructions on making flaky pie crusts from scratch as well as classic seasonal fillings.

You’ll learn how to jazz up a traditional pumpkin pie with festive decorations and garnishes, and to bake pies in different shapes. Before you know it, your pies will look so impressive, they’ll be too pretty to eat… and too delicious to resist!

To register for the class, you have to call ahead:  (919) 484-1706. See a store associate to learn about other upcoming classes and events. For more info, click HERE.

Santa arrives at The Streets at Southpoint TONIGHT (11/16) at 7pm with the first ever Jingle Jam!

Get ready to jingle your bells at The Streets at Southpoint on Friday, November 16th during the first annual Jingle Jam, 7:00 – 8:30pm. The Main Street stage and Center Court will be decked out with all the holiday trimmings for a community celebration to welcome the season in style.

From live music to magic and merriment, Jingle Jam festivities kick off with holiday performances by Big Bang Boom Band, Fizzbin the Magician, Apex High School’s Drama Club, and UNC carolers! The holiday season officially begins once the switch is flipped to light the 40’ tree! My advice? Bring a camera!

No holiday party would be complete without a parade to welcome Santa from the North Pole! The Southern High School Marching Band will march, playful costumed characters will prance, little ballerinas will dance, and kids will clap and cheer as we hold a welcome parade in Santa’s honor. So join us for this FREE event and take advantage of the Jingle Jam specials our stores will be offering to help shoppers check off their holiday list.
