A Chance to Give to Those in Need!

31 May

I  wanted to give you all a heads up regarding a terrific event coming up this weekend, starting today Friday, May 31 through Saturday June 1st.

Did you now that for every $1 donated, the Food Bank can provide the equivalent of $10 worth of food or 5 meals?

The Central & Eastern Food Bank of North Carolina is kicking off its STOP SUMMER HUNGER Campaign on Friday.

Here’s what is in store:

Help the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina kick off the Stop Summer Hunger Campaign (formerly Kids Summer Stock) to benefit the Kids Meals & More children’s programs.

Join them for The Streets at Southpoint Kickoff Event, starting on May 31 with an ABC11 Broadcast event, leading into a Kids Walk on June 1 and wrapping up with a Drive Through food drive! This is a great opportunity for you and your family to have fun and support a great cause.

Friday, May 31
ABC11 Broadcast & Cisco Can-Structure

Come on out from noon to 6:30 pm to the center court of the mall as talent from ABC11 broadcasts the weather segments LIVE!  Volunteers from Cisco will be building a model of the ABC11 logo out of cans for donation!

Saturday, June 1
Morning Kids Walk

The Stop Summer Hunger Kids Walk is a “family fun walk” inside the mall of The Streets at Southpoint. Walkers will follow the route around the lower level. For each lap completed, walkers will win a ticket for a spin of the prize wheel! There will be unique structures made out of cans and Food Bank tables along the way. Walkers can get a photo taken with Souper Can, the Food Bank mascot. Strollers are VERY welcome!

Pre-registration is recommended and the first 100 registrants will receive a FREE gift bag on event day.  You can make an online donation to the Food Bank with your walk registration and be entered in a drawing for a $100 VISA gift card!

On event day, check-in begins at 8:30 am at the Main Street entrance of the mall. Walk from 9am to 10:30 am and help stop summer hunger!

Saturday, June 1
Drive, Drop & Go! Food Drive

Don’t want to walk? NO PROBLEM! You can join in the Drive, Drop & Go Food Drive where volunteers will collect bags of food from folks in their cars as they drive by.  Simply pack a bag of non-perishable food (see the Food Bank’s Most Needed Items list for ideas) and look for thier volunteers at the Main Street Champp’s Crossover from 9 am to 2 pm.  Drop off your food and go!  EASY!

What else?

Can’t join us for the kickoff?  You can still make a donation to Stop Summer Hunger to support children and families in need.  Consider launching your own personal fundraising campaign and help even more kids this summer. Remember: Just $1 equals 5 meals!

And you can even help out without leaving your smartphone, tablet or computer! Just be sure to “LIKE” The Streets on Facebook. Now through June 2, The Streets at Southpoint will be donating a $1 on your behalf to the Food Bank when you become a new Facebook Fan!  The goal is to raise $5,000 which is 25,000 meals to feed kids all summer long!  If you already do “LIKE”, encourage your friends!

See you Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 9 am to 2 pm at The Streets at Southpoint!

Memorial Day is Almost Here! Is Your BBQ Ready?

23 May

Whether you’re a steak lover or vegetarian, we all have one thing in common on Memorial Day: we love spending time outside around the BBQ!

But it’s been a long winter and a pretty cool start to spring. So if you’re like me, parties by the grill have been few and far between in the last few months.

But that’s no excuse for not being prepared, especially when you have me to direct you to the ideal retailers who can get anyone ready for not just Memorial Day weekend, but the summer ahead- no matter if it’s a condo balcony or a massive backyard patio.

I love C&B for the time-saving accessories and helpful aides that make it easy to entertain.

And right now, you can get FREE SHIPPING on all orders of $1500 or more!

Some of my favorites include…

For your outdoor entertaining, make your way to West Elm.  Here are a few of the pieces that caught my eye when I was in there recently:

From the novice to the Iron Chefs among us, Sur La Table is the, I repeat, THE destination for your culinary needs.  Here are some of my favorite finds:

Well… after those examples, you don’t really have any excuse for not hosting a fantastic Memorial Day (or any day) party outside!

Need any other help? Let me know and stay tuned for more summer updates!

Memorial Day Weekend is just a few days away and if you’ve decided to stick around and avoid the crowded beaches, then you’re in luck!

Celebrate Memorial Day this Saturday at The Streets at Southpoint with another fabulous installment of the popular MUSIC ON MAIN FREE CONCERT SERIES!!
This Saturday from 6-9pm at the  Cinema Circle Stage enjoy the awesome music of Reality Show Band!
Reality is a collection of members who, with their vision and talent, created the hottest new party band in the triangle area. Reality has a membership of artists that that have been in the music industry for more than 20 years.Whatever the occasion, Reality has the ability to keep the audience jumping and enjoying the soulful slammin’ sounds of music from past, present and future. From R&B to soul, beach and motown, Reality will get your toes tappin’!

Whether with the whole family, a few friends, or a date, The Streets at Southpoint offers some great dining options, like Rockfish Seafood Grill! Grab some dinner outside on the patio while enjoying the live music or stay inside and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, either way you’ll be glad you did!

Rockfish is a casual, neighborhood restaurant that features great seafood, super friendly service, and a full bar that proudly features local microbrews! I spent the evening out there last Saturday and let me tell you, Rockfish is seriously good with very reasonable prices, the most expensive item on the whole menu is just $21.99 !   From the moment you walk in you feel as though you’ve just stepped foot on an antique Chris-Craft Boat,  and it’s pretty cool, they even have seats from old boats!

We started off with the infamous ROCKFISH TOWER!
Four layers of sushi style greatness!  Jumbo Lump Crab, sashimi Ahi Tuna, Avocado and sashimi Salmon stacked super high and drizzled with wasabi aioli.  Get this: they serve it with crispy wonton chips…and it’s perfectly delicious!

If you love crab cakes, then you must try the Crab Cake Appetizer.
Two jumbo lump crab cakes served with homemade remoulade and cocktail sauces.

After filling up on appetizers, it was time for the main course!  I chose one of the Rockfish favorites, Cajun Pasta!
Generous portions of shrimp, chicken, smoked Andouille sausage (though, I opted for no sausage and that was not a problem at all), onions, red bell peppers and penne pasta all tossed in a homemade Cajun Cream Sauce!

This pasta was unlike anything I’ve ever had before, you must try!!!

Even though Rockfish is a seafood restaurant, they aren’t strictly fish – you can enjoy a burger or a steak if you’d like and Rockfish is perfect for families with a very kid-friendly menu that features items like Mac-n-Cheese and Chicken Tenders, so definitely bring the kids, besides, they’ll love the boat decor!

Rockfish Seafood Grill puts a huge emphasis on supporting the local community whether it be hosting events to raise money for charity, keeping local brews on tap, or even setting up a game of cornhole on any given evening to spark some fun, Rockfish is constantly trying to do more than just make delicious food!  Customers are their number one priority and it shows.
